Touching base...

I don't really have anything interesting to impart, but I thought I'd better sign in to say hello.

Went to visit the 24/7 prayer room which was cool. While I was there, Naomi asked me "So when are you going to work for Norwich then?" which is now stuck in my brian and I can't get it out. Why do I not work for Norwich? (well if we're being picky, I DO work for Norwich but I think Naomi was getting at working the other part of her job!) I think Norwich as a District scares and excites me. It's chaotic and seems haphazard. I also feel a sense of loyalty to Broadland and for all that I grumble about Chris, I really like him. Why rock the boat? I think that has to be the question: why rock the boat? Shouldn't I just get on with finishing the course and then think about the next step? And there is nothing to say that if I applied for the position at Norwich I would get it. But I keep thinking there will be lots of qualified people in July next year, all looking for the next step up and this is a part time postition which really, really suits me atm. I shouldn't imagine there will be many of those around next year.

I wish Naomi hadn't said anything!

Lauren has got her final exam today (physics) and then wee are off into the city to celebrate with lunch and prom essentials! I am worried about the logisitcs of the prom tomorrow. I have the Frettenham/Sprowston rounders tournament in the evening and Links 4 in the afternoon. How I'm supposed to get her to and pick her up from Attleborough to have her hair done beats me. I'm sure it will work out somehow...

I now have Children in Need readings to do...

Lord thank you for Jennie: for her optimism, and her complete faith in you. Lord I pray that you will speed her recovery and miraculously heal her. I pray that she can sleep really well and not suffer from strange dreams as she has been of late. Lord I thank you for her friendship and her natural gift of encouragement. Lord restore her to full health both physically and mentally. In Jesus name Amen.

Strange day

Yesterday was a strange day. Firstly on the way to Links 4, Irene was telling me about her weekend in Wales where she saw her kids and ex-husband. SHe was hsving a bit of a moan about him because of some money things. While we were at Links 4 she got a phone call from her son to say that he just discovered him dead.

Needless to say Irene was in a right state.

Then when I got home from work at Youth Club, I hear that Jenny is having her bowel removed. :( Not only do I feel guilty for not having phoned her in the week but she's having such a major operation.
Lord be is this situation for Jenny and her family. Amen

Oh and I got an annoying text message about Chris getting a bee in his bonnet about Blurbchat. I can feel the tension in me rising...

It's amusing that having discovered that I am the Sleeping Beauty, I sleep badly! I have woken up early yet again, 5.22am today and lay there thinking thought upon thought. I don't like sleeping less, it makes me look and feel like a zombie.

Chris B was asking me yesterday what I enjoy about my work and at the moment I'm not really enjoying any of it. Last night was no exception. I did however enjoy the presence of young people from Repton House and talking to Derek from there. We agreed that it would be good to do more stuff together but you can't just lump together young people with disabilities and young people without and expect them to get along. There's a lot of ground work needed.

Thanks for coming Helen V. I hope you made it to Fliss' OK.

You scored as Emergent/Postmodern. You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Weekend wanderings

The Parish Council meeting went so well! I was there early due to a mix up with the time so I spent the time writing some bullet points about what we've done with youth club over the year. I have to say how impressed I was when reading it! The people at the meeting didn't have a chance! I probably was a little OTT in the amount of detail that I went into but by the time the guy with his letter of complaint popped up, the popular opinion was that I was the best thing since sliced bread.
I have to thank God that He gave me that time to prepare, the gift of verbal communication and good timing to all combine to smooth over what could have been a tricky meeting. Thank you God!

Another humbling experience was helping with the signing choir. I was asked to sing with the choir in order to give the choir leader the cues for the songs. I was really moved as I sang with them and loved the joy of expressing worship to God with signing (as opposed to singing!) So many thoughts about the inclusivity (or otherwise) of our services. Hmmm...

George part deux

I took George to see the vet yesterday and he kindly removed his matted dead fur around the absess and gave him an antibiotic injection! I now have tablets to give him (two every day) and the wound has stopped oozing.

I am sad and happy.

I'm happy because youth club was better yesterday but I am sad that I was unable to see Travis at the UEA. I do like Travis and I would have enjoyed it :-( So as I took Poppy and Immy to youth club, Lauren, her tall friend, Bob and Julian went to see Travis. I don't want to hear that they did an acoustic version of Flowers in the Window. No, I do not. :P

Apparantly I have a Frettenham Parish Council meeting to go to tonight. Joy.

Good news/bad news

Well the good news is that George's absess has come to a head and the bad news is that it's now oozing.

Lord I pray that the infection will clear up and that George won't be in too much discomfort. Amen

The big, stupid cat known as George is officially unwell. He has obviously been in a fight and has bites on the top of his head. He came in the other day, immediately curled up and slept. Please believe that this is unusual for George. The first thing he normally does when he gets in is miaow noisily and nip me until I feed him. Since then he has mainly slept and now all his face is swollen. Poor stupid mog! I think he'll be fine but I may need to take him to the vet to get antibiotics :(

The Gift

When liberating magazines from the recycling bin in Waitrose, one of the magazines had a competition in. It's a short story writing competition and I thought I might attempt to enter. The story has to be entitled "The Gift" and the first prize is £2,500 and a laptop. It has to be 3,000 words long and the closing date is 17th June. I reckon it will be just like writing another youth and community essay! ;-)

I have already done a mind map of different ideas and possibilities to do with the phrase "The Gift". Now I need to write something really good...

OK! I have returned!

You're all right! I have neglected my duties! I'm sorry but with 2 essays to do I thought the best thing for me to do was not come on. The essays are now behind me. All done and sent off. Yay! And of course I have loads of work to do too but I have no deadlines atm so, I'm just going to kick back and blog some more!

So...Blogs! In the time when I've been away, I have:
written 2 essays
been to my first shipmeet
been to see Revenge of the Sith
made smoothies

hmmm, I'm sure there's more but I'll pace myself...

Anyhoo, it's great to be back! :D

PS Just remembered, we had an OFSTED inspection. I knew there was something else big that had happened!
