Advent Calendar Day Five

Matthew 21:14-17

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant.

"Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him.
"Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read,
" 'From the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise?"

And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

I don't believe that children love Christmas because they are out for what they can get. I think that children realise the magic of spending time with family, eating together and celebrating something bigger. Of course there are presents too! Children were shouting in praise of Jesus and what he had done in the passage above: the teachers of the law however were indignant. Jesus said we need to be like children in order to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Try and ponder today what makes Christmas magical: the message of hope for mankind, taking time out and giving.
