Living Icons
BBC Two's Culture Show is getting people to nominate their Living Icons.
The criteria was given:
Your icon must be:
* Living
* Have been born in the United Kingdom or be living in the United Kingdom
* Have made an impact on British cultural life
Other things to consider which are not compulsory but might help your choice:
* If your icon died tomorrow, would they make front page news?
* Has your icon made a cultural impact beyond their personal skills or field of work?
* Will their name be recognised by young and old alike?
* Will we still be talking about them in ten years time?
The top 10 nominated people were:
Vivienne Westwood
David Bowie
David Attenborough
Stephen Fry
Kate Bush
Kate Moss
Paul McCartney
Morrissey
Michael Caine
Alan Bennett
From that list I possibly would vote for Stephen Fry because I like him but think that Paul McCartney is the person on the list with the most iconic influence. Do you think that anyone is missing from that list? Who would you vote for?

I wouldn't consider any of those apart from Stephen Fry.
Maybe John Lennon instead of Paul McCarney?
It's really difficult to think of people who have had an impact outside of their professional or personal skills!
although my favourite person fry, at the moment is too young. has to be someone with a lifetime achievment and wide appeal so has to be between bowie, attenbro, mccartney or caine. Sir Paul hasnt done himself any recent favours and david attenbro's appeal is a bit too narrow these days. that leaves caine and bowie. it's a tough call but for me has to be caine.
I think that all Sir Paul has done of late has been to marry the wrong woman. The brief is to choose someone with massive influence (across the world), known by youngsters and the elderly alike. Everyone has heard of the Beatles, I'd say that everyone (95% compared to Caine's 70%) will know Macca. Even though he may not have been my choice, I believe he's the right choice.
there's no politicians! my choice would be bob geldolf.
cheers naomi
