Dreams and Visions
On reading this month's Christianity magazine I quote from Steve Chalke jumped out at me:
A dream flatters the dreamer, a vision hurts
Not meaning to patronise you, more to focus myself on the gems contained within I'm guessing he was saying that it's easy and comfortable enough to dream but a vision is costly and painful. That's worth thinking on...

If I am honest, its a bit of a vague statement.
I have dreams (as in things I want to do) and they are in the most something I would like to achieve. I guess what he is saying a dream is often instigated by the dreamer, its what they wish to do mostly. A vision can be a dream, but quite often is the conveying of Gods will upon us. This vision can be positive and negative, as apposed to a dream which implies its positive.
Dunno - interesting point.
I realised as I was typing that I was taking it completely out of context! I should have pointed out that it was for a dedicated walk with Jesus, maybe as an individual but possibly as a community. Steve mentioned the "I have a dream" Speech by Martin Luther King and said that he was a visionary rather than a dreamer.
I think at a personal level I dream loads but achieve nothing for God so maybe that sentence leapt out at me for a reason...
I think it is an interesting and thanks for bringing it to our attention.
It seems to be a useful starting point to judge between a dream or a vision - I think it works.
On a different note - ever notice how Joseph the dreamer in the bible could only ever interpret other people's dreams - not his own dreams? And were the dreams just dreams or were they visions?
